Touring in support of their second LP The Brink – which debuted at #2 on the ARIA album charts, The Jezabels’ YouTube live stream will be hosted by Triple J’s Zan Rowe. In a first for Sydney Opera House, this performance will also be streamed live on Facebook. Fans can attend, engage or watch this unmissable show from all corners of the globe, simply by heading to facebook.com/sydneyoperahouse.
Led by enigmatic front woman Hayley Mary (vox), Heather Shannon (piano, synths), Samuel Lockwood (guitar) and Nik Kaloper (drums), it has been a meteoric rise for the Sydney four-piece.
Armed with their signature blend of brooding goth-pop and indie-rock anthems, the four-piece burst onto the scene in 2008 with debut EP The Man Is Dead. They quickly followed in 2009 with lauded EPs She’s So Hard (2009) and Dark Storm (2010), and released their ARIA and AMP Award-winning debut LP, Prisoner in 2011. Touring the globe off the back of the critically acclaimed chart-topping album, 2012 saw The Jezabels play in excess of 200 shows worldwide, garnering widespread critical acclaim for their all-conquering live show.
2013 saw the quartet return to the studio to record their follow-up LP The Brink, with UK Producer Dan Grech-Marguerat (Radiohead, Scissor Sisters, The Kooks and Lana Del Rey). A fearless record of youthful optimism shining through hard-won experience, The Jezabels star was confirmed when they were approached to support Depeche Mode and the Pixies on their tours through Ireland and the UK.
In what promises to be a career defining moment for one of Australia’s most exciting acts, The Jezabels will join celebrated artists including The National, Grizzly Bear, CHIC featuring Nile Rodgers, Tegan and Sara, Empire of the Sun, Sarah Blasko, Neil Finn and Paul Kelly and more when their Concert Hall debut is streamed live from the Opera House. Created in partnership with YouTube, Live at the House is a series of music events from the Sydney Opera House.
Tickets to The Jezabels’ Sydney Opera House performances on Monday 28 and Tuesday 29 April are still available.
