C. W. Stoneking Returns To Australia
Singer, songwriter and raconteur C.W. Stoneking will bring his inimitable songs and stories to the Heavenly Sounds stages in his first stripped-back solo shows since 2005, appearing for two intimate performances in Sydney and Melbourne this coming June.
The Heavenly Sounds touring concept, which sees artists perform in the breathtaking surroundings of churches and cathedrals, has proven to be a great success on the live music circuit with sold out tours from acts such as Daughter, Laura Marling, Beth Orton, Seeker Lover Keeper and Lisa Mitchell to name a few.
With two albums to his name, guitar and tenor banjo player C.W. Stoneking has been widely praised for his unique take on old-time blues style. His ARIA Award-winning album ‘Jungle Blues’ was inspired in part by his amazing experiences as a survivor of a shipwreck off Africa’s West Coast in 1998, it draws on the blues of the Southern USA, calypso music of Trinidad, jungle jazz of the 1920’s, and hillbilly music of the 1930’s.
With a reputation for enthralling live performances, C.W. is renowned for his ability to transport the audience to a different time and place. For these two shows C.W. will be playing music from his soon to be released brand new album.
Vocal powerhouse Kira Puru will be opening for both shows. After four solid years fronting doom-pop band the Bruise, Puru has favoured the studio over the stage, collaborating with an eclectic list of the country’s finest; The Preatures, Illy, M-Phazes, Paul Mac and Paul Kelly among them. For Heavenly Sounds, Puru will play a rare and intimate solo set featuring brand new songs from her upcoming debut solo release.
