The National YouTube Live Stream From Sydney Opera House

Exclusive live stream from the Opera House’s iconic Forecourt

Hailed as ‘the band of our generation,’ (Huffington Post) indie rock luminaries The National will live stream their sold-out performance from the Opera House’s iconic Forecourt on Saturday 8 February, on youtube.com/liveatthehouse.

To celebrate this momentous occasion and to connect The National’s fans from around the globe, this special event will be hosted live from the Forecourt by Triple J’s Lindsay McDougall, aka The Doctor, from 8.20pm AEDT.

Ben Marshall, Head of Contemporary Music at Sydney Opera House said,

Experiencing a performance at the Opera House is unlike anywhere else. As one of the greatest buildings of the 20th century we play host to the great artists of the world, and we want to share the magical experience of live performance with every corner of the globe by live streaming, taking extraordinary artists live into people’s homes and hands.

To do this with a band as magnificent as The National is a dream come true. My association with the band goes back many years and watching their continuous ascent over this time has been absolutely thrilling. I could not be any prouder to present two sold out shows by The National on the steps on the Opera House, and to live stream this performance around the world will be a major moment.

Led by Matt Berninger, twin guitarists Aaron and Bryce Dessner, and brothers Scott and Bryan Devendorf on bass and drums, the Brooklyn five-piece will perform in front of 10,000 Sydney fans over two nights, Friday 7 and Saturday 8 February, in what will be their long awaited Sydney Opera House debut.

Celebrating a 15-year career that stretches six albums, nearly a million records sold and a string of festival-topping tours, in this magical harbourside performance, the critically acclaimed quintet will join Crowded House, Massive Attack and Sting in what promises to be another historical occasion from the newly reopened Forecourt.

Touring in support of their most successful album to date, 2013’s chart-topping Trouble Will Find Me, the Ohio native’s mastery of pensive, euphoric rock has seen The National slowly grow from indies to arenas, from their breakthrough album Alligator (2005), to the melancholic mastery of Boxer (2007) and the world-beating High Violet (2010), to their latest LP.

This extraordinary Sydney moment, will see the indie giants join Grizzly Bear, Empire of the Sun, Amon Tobin, Tegan and Sara, Sarah Blasko, Neil Finn and Paul Kelly and CHIC featuring Nile Rodgers, in what promises to be an unforgettable performance streamed live from the Opera House. Created in partnership with YouTube and presented by Honda, Live at the House is a series of music events from the Sydney Opera House.
