Mega Fäuna Highly Anticipated Debut Album “Softmore”

Masters of creating lush and intimate indie soundscapes, MEGA FÄUNA expand on dreamy notions of life’s myriad experiences across their debut album, softmore. The album, drawing together a meticulously crafted collection of influences, stories and emotional threads, arrives as a beautiful statement of intent from one of the East Coast’s most exciting and dynamic outfits.

For MEGA FÄUNA, the journey to get to this point starts back with their debut in 2020. Created against a social climate that was riddled with uncertainties and a sense of restlessness, MEGA FÄUNA became not only a new avenue for creative expression for these five musicians, but a personal salve during this time. The band, comprising members of outfits THE BUOYS, SWEETIE, WILES SKELETEN, and BABY BEEF features striking personalities and talents that have come together here in building a strong sonic foundation.

Across softmore, the listener is able to immerse themselves in these moments of charismatic indie Australiana. From the jangle-laden vibrancy of lead single ‘heartbeat’ and driving pace of ‘bb there’, this is an album primed to get lost in.

A song like ‘make believe’ hypnotises, as the lyrics navigate the complexity of a relationship “with someone who takes you for granted. Where you have lost yourself in someone else. Almost in idolisation and adoration, and feeling that they only value you when you are something to lose, or when they need something…”

It’s this intimate space that MEGA FÄUNA are at ease creating from. Guitars blend beautifully with synths and rhythms to offer moments of nostalgia and hazy romanticism, but in the vocals, the listener can find a striking anchor that holds steady throughout the whole journey. The group explores the natural passage of time (‘new skin’) and life’s unique catalyst moments (‘unheld’, ‘windows down’) in a way that remains accessible, yet incredibly personal.

Making their debut in 2020 with the song ‘Jacaranda’, MEGA FÄUNA developed a strong community following quickly as ensuing music releases cemented their status as ones to watch. A string of singles that would lead to the Fibonacci Sequins EP demonstrated their natural knack for intimate songwriting and storytelling while musically, the band presents charisma and a heartfelt bond with ease.

Notable performances have included SXSW Sydney and the King Street Crawl, as well as support for the likes of RVG, Otoboke Beaver, Body Type, Los Bitchos and more. To date, MEGA FÄUNA’s music has received healthy support via rotation adds on community radio, as well as a growing community on streaming services, attracting over 140,000 streams on Spotify alone.

The band will officially usher in the softmore era with a Sydney album launch on April 24 at the brand-new Heaps Normal venue in Marrickville.
