Kisschasy Release Highly Anticipated Fourth Album The Terrors Of Comfort

As one of the defining groups of Australian alt-rock throughout the 2000s, Kisschasy’s impact has been an enduring one – perfectly exemplified by the band’s recent return to national stages in 2025, buoyed by the rejuvenated concept of new music and more importantly, a new chapter of artistry on the horizon.

In 2025, the four-piece made their official return with new music in ‘Lie To Me’, ‘Parasite’ & Uncomfortably Numb – three songs that offered moments of excitement and curiosity; moments that are followed through upon in 2026, with the release of their long-awaited fourth studio album, The Terrors Of Comfort. Although this may be the first album released since 2009’s ‘Seizures’, it’s not the first batch of songs written by the band since that time – with their original 4th studio album scrapped, leading to 7-year hiatus back in 2015.

“At first I didn’t want to write new material. Music had broken my heart, like it does to most of its creators at some point, and I was apprehensive after a failed attempt at a fourth Kisschasy album years earlier.  In late 2024 I met with Joel and Jai (Jai is like our Executive-Producer-meets-manager-meets-friend) and they suggested we release a new single as a way of giving something back to the fans who’ve stuck by us. The trouble was we knew it had to be great.

At some point over the next few months, lightning struck. There was a sound, there was a concept, and there was not one but fourteen songs. The band agreed we didn’t have a single, we had an album. We picked our favourite ten of the bunch, got together in Melbourne, rehearsed for two days, recorded for five days and somehow came out with what I believe is the best thing we’ve ever created.”

Across ten tracks, The Terrors Of Comfort journeys human feeling – the mess and the beauty that make us unique – distilled and delivered through the lens of infectious melody, charged rhythms and riffs, and vocals that come layered with charisma. Choruses come bound with emotion, woven with lyricism from Darren Cordeux that speak to human desire, frustration and emotional awareness gained through experiences lived.

Songs like ‘Uncomfortably Numb’ embody the central energies of the album: restlessness, yearning and in different ways, fear. Yet throughout the album (‘The Quiet Sound’, ‘Radiowaves’), Kisschasy navigates such terrain with confidence, ultimately guiding the listener through searing moments of fun and introspection. The Terrors Of Comfort, simply put, is more than a re-entry for Kisschasy: it’s an opportunity to show the band’s elevated sound.

On the album’s themes, Cordeux describes the record as “a sister album to Hymns For The Nonbeliever”, explaining that; “Where Hymns was a coming-of-age album about finding oneself, Terrors is about where one ends up on the other side of that. Comfort, for me, has rarely been a good thing. Instead of facing certain uncomfortable truths I turned to drugs (and wound up in hospital as a result) stayed in bad relationships and, for a long time, avoided making music for fear of failure. Anytime I’ve looked back at my life the most rewarding moments are those in which I took the less comfortable option. The creation of this album is the ultimate example of that.”

Kisschasy’s chemistry has been key to their enduring success. Having spent their formative years growing and evolving together on and off stages, Cordeux and bandmates Joel Vanderuit, Sean Thomas and Karl Ammitzboll have developed a fine-tuned dynamic that has led to an unbreakable sound. The magic they brought to their earlier material across seminal records United Paper People (2005), Hymns For The Non-Believer (2007) and Seizures (2009) can be felt throughout The Terrors of Comfort; from the familiar-yet-fresh tones on songs like ‘Digital Saviour’ and ‘Your Girlfriend’, to the moments of nuance and poignancy on songs further into the record, such as ‘Better’ and ‘Mystery Misery’

Recorded between Woodstock Studios in Melbourne and Hermon’s Hermit Studio in Los Angeles, the record was produced and engineered by Cordeux along with Richard Stolz on additional engineering duties, with mixing from John O’Mahony (Hole, Coldplay, The Cribs) and mastering from Ian Sechick (Gwen Stefani, Pantera, Jawbreaker). With such a hands-on approach throughout the recording process, the band were able to capture the true essence of Kisschasy in its purest form; raw, unfiltered and a perfect representation of the band’s sound.

“The songs retain a certain spark because we didn’t have time to overthink or overproduce them. That spark is this album’s secret weapon. It’s raw but still Hi-Fi, it has hiss and hum, the tempos ebb and flow but to me it sounds alive, it sounds commanding and it sounds like good chemistry. After playing with a variety of people for a few years I learned how hard it can be to get other musicians to see your vision. With Karl, Sean and Joel it’s instantaneous – they always manage to transcend what I’m hearing in my head and transmute the song into its best possible incarnation. That’s something I’ll never take for granted again.

PRAISE
“The Terrors of Comfort marks Kisschasy’s first full-length LP since 2009’s Seizures. Modern production has elevated the band’s sound to new heights without losing any of the magic from the first three records that made them one of Australia’s most beloved rock outfits.

ROLLING STONE AUSTRALIA

“Listening through is like reuniting with an old friend you haven’t seen in years, and everything just clicks into place. You’re both different, life has happened, but you can still connect with each other like you used to. Every song feels like a new story being told, and you hang on every word, not only because of the connection you used to have, but because it’s genuinely interesting. It’s an album they couldn’t have made until now, and it’s well worth the wait. This is the Kisschasy album that fans didn’t know they needed.”

THE MUSIC

“There are elements of each era of Kisschasy on this record that show just how much their sound has developed, while not forgetting their roots and earlier sound. (…) This record feels like a culmination event of everything these lads have done, and funneled into a single project. And it’s all the better for it. If you’re a Kisschasy fan, it’s worth your time.”
