Bad Neighbour Sign With Ninth Life Records

Brisbane’s fast-rising indie pop punk outfit Bad Neighbour have officially become the second band to sign with to Ninth Life Records, marking a major milestone in their trajectory as one of Australia’s most promising new acts. To celebrate, the band are releasing new single Snarling today, launching live across Australia in July on a highly anticipated national tour supporting the legendary TheSmith Street Band. Tickets on sale now.

Bad Neighbour continue to develop their established raw lyricism over melodic instrumental hooks with Snarling, capturing the band’s knack for channeling vulnerability into anthemic indie punk. “Snarling was written after the end of a long relationship,”explains frontman Cooper Riley“I was coming to terms with letting someone down, and how my life had changed and what the landscape of my future looked like.” The single showcases the band’s evolution in both sound and storytelling, and offers a taste of what’s to come under their new label partnership.

From the sun-soaked streets of Brisbane, Bad Neighbour came together off the back of shared musical interests and combined motivation to tread their own sonic ground inspired by the likes of PUP, Modern Baseball and The Menzingers. Lead by Cooper Riley(lead vocals/rhythm guitar) and joined by Zoe Middleton (lead guitar/vocals), Liam Sumner (bass/vocals) and Jack Parkes (drums), Bad Neighbour are well on their way to becoming “frontrunners in Australia’s ever-evolving indie punk crowd”, as coined by Wall Of Sound.

The last year saw Bad Neighbour tease a handful of singles that were revealed as the building blocks towards their debut album Millions, which was released last September. Tracks 20,000 knife fightsIn The CarAnd The FleasHeart Pumps Bloodand The Middle helped the album clock well over 150,000 Spotify streams before the album had even released and established Bad Neighbour as rough-around-the-edges punk, embellished with a distinctly emo flair. The ‘Millions’ album is a testament to the bands evolution as artists and their ability to craft songs that resonate on a personal level.

Bad Neighbour’s relentless commitment to their craft has seen them share stages with some of the industry’s finest, carving out a name as one of Brisbane’s most exciting live acts and solidifying themselves as ‘ones to watch’ as they joined the Destroy All Lines roster. The quartet have recently toured Australia supporting the likes of Sweet Pill(US), Mom Jeans (US) and Microwave (US), Spanish Love Songs (US), Hot Mulligan(US) and Free Throw (US), Badflower (US) and took to the big stages at New Bloom Festival in March last year as well as Good Things Festival in December.

Fuelled by a love for the DIY spirit of punk and hardcore, Ninth Life Records is a brand new Australian artist-run label dedicated to emo, punk, rock and grunge. Founded by Tayla Ellerby (Talk Heavy) and Joshua Merriel (Greyscale Records), the label aims to support emerging local and international artists by creating pathways to larger stages at home and around the world. With deep roots in both music and industry, Ninth Life exists to fill a gap in the Australian scene, and at its core, the mission is simple: sad punks helping sad punks.
