Due to overwhelming demand, Sydney Opera House today announced Irish sensation James Vincent McMorrow will perform a second and final performance at Vivid LIVE 2014 on Saturday 31 May.

Tickets go on sale to the general public at 9am, Wednesday 9 April.

The chart-topping Irish prodigy will present the Australian debut of ‘Post Tropical Live’, the companion performance to his critically acclaimed second album, Post Tropical, transforming the sold out Concert Hall engagement and now the Joan Sutherland Theatre, into an immersive sonic and visual experience.

Armed with a falsetto to rival James Blake, the 31-year-old singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist broke out of his native Ireland with the cabin-inspired acoustic confessionals of debut LP, Early in the Morning in 2010. Drawing comparisons to the ‘bearded folk rock’ movement, McMorrow’s debut reached the top of the Irish charts and picked up a nomination for Ireland’s Choice Music Prize, since then McMorrow has shed his rustic roots and embraced synth, brass and drum machines, resulting in this year’s R&B and hip hop inspired Post Tropical.

Buoyed by a desire to create ‘the most beautiful thing that I could imagine’, the instant classic’s blend of ethereal electronics and symphony-sized arrangements capturing Al Green and D’Angelo, with the Guardian noting that “the shivering beauty of his voice recalls Antony Hegarty at his most intimate,” while the Sydney Morning Herald dubbed the Irishman “an otherworldly talent”.

Written, produced and featuring McMorrow playing most of the instruments on the album, Post Tropical was recorded at a Texan pecan farm half a mile from the Mexican border, a hideaway that had previously been home to the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Beach House and Animal Collective. Attracting rave reviews, The Guardian noted that “McMorrow has renounced backwaters minimalism to create a richly textured second album,” while Pitchfork revered the sophomore release’s “deliberate, languorous pleasures… an album to live with, settle with and be crisply rejuvenated by.”

Pairing his halcyon-soul falsetto, heartbreaking songwriting, and electro-acoustic sonics with an immersive new visual experience, Post Tropical will be brought to life with the roaring dynamics of McMorrow’s three-piece band in what promises to be two unmissable performances from the Irish artist, who is fast developing a cult like following the world over.

James Vincent McMorrow will be touring nationally in May.
