Shihad Frontman Jon Toogood Debut + Oz Tour
Prolific Shihad frontman Jon Toogood will return to Australia this November for a run of shows around the country to celebrate his first solo record, Last Of The Lonely Gods, out October 11 via Warner Music Australia. Pre-order the album here.
Alongside the news comes his soulful new single “Gravity”. The second offering from the album sees Jon return to his acoustic guitar, contemplating the crossroad in life – deliberating between where you thought you’d end up versus where you are.
“Losing both parents lead me to thinking a lot about my own mortality which in turn lead to me writing this tune. I’d been hiding away from the world after my mum passed away and was trying to work out what I wanted my life to look like going forward” says Jon, talking to the new single.
“I wrote the tune to help me work some of that out.”
As the founding frontman of legendary, multi-platinum NZ rock band Shihad and supergroup The Adults, Toogood has spent 30 years at the forefront of Aoteara’s music scene, writing, singing, performing, mentoring, managing, directing, producing, DJ-ing, programming and promoting – all with enormous energy and humanity.
Toogood’s next chapter reveals him at his most up close and personal. Last Of The Lonely Gods is a rousing and optimistic collection of songs that sees him back on the acoustic guitar, making meaning out of a series of challenges he has faced in the last few years. Produced by ARIA award-winning producer Scott Horscroft (Empire of the Sun, Silverchair and Shihad’s Beautiful Machine), Last Of The Lonely Gods is a journey through grief, the loss of loved ones while being separated by lockdowns, the pain of not being able to say goodbye and looking for silver linings.

ABOUT JON TOOGOOD
Since 1988 Jon Toogood has performed at more than 1500 live shows and sold over 250,000 albums world-wide, with two albums certified Double Platinum and five albums certified Gold in New Zealand and Australia. Shihad was admitted to the New Zealand Music Hall of Fame in 2010, and the following year won Best Rock Album at the 2011 Vodafone Music Awards for Ignite, and Best Rock Album in 2015 for Five Eyes.
Since 2010 Jon has been a founder member and manager for internationally successful artist collaborative The Adults.
Jon holds the record in New Zealand for the most #1 albums by an NZ artist (x6), 15x NZ Top 40 albums and the most singles in the NZ charts (x25). He has also written more radio hits than any other artist in New Zealand music history.
