Maxon Debut Album ‘Talking With Strangers’ Out April 8

Every now and then a song grabs you and feels like a homecoming for the soul. And courtesy of award-winning singer-songwriter Maxon, the release today of her new single Everybody, as well as its accompanying lyric video, washes over you like a warm port in the storm, while also providing a stunning peek further into her upcoming debut album Talking With Strangers, due out on Wednesday April 8.

Opening with glistening instrumentals and warm folk rock tones, Everybody swiftly glows and grows into a track powerfully helmed by Maxon’s silken vocals and cathartic prowess (along with a powerhouse choir, and an army of friends and community members adding some instrumental magic to proceedings). A song that effortlessly came to life via a magnetic collision of creative minds, Everybody also dazzles with its deeply authentic subject matter, its uplifting chorus and, ultimately, Maxon’s own powerful personal connection. “Honestly….it feels whole,” shares Maxon of Everybody. “Something magical happened the day we laid down the rhythm section. It gave the song and the entire album a real sense of belonging. I wanted the album to feel like home for people, even when I’m telling deeply heartfelt and somewhat emotional stories about my life…and also my coming out story which was so hard for me to tell for so long.”

“There were no direct references for this one,” Maxon adds. “It was pure chemistry – magical people coming together in a magical moment. Nay and I wrote it, but the transformation and groundedness you hear came from the musicians who were there that fateful day…. Ezekiel Fenn, Ryan Lim, and Lachlan O’Kane. Everyone brought their own flavour, and it just clicked.”

“A lot of the songs on the album – while hopeful – carry a thread of sadness,” Maxon continues, hinting at what’s to come on the upcoming album Talking With Strangers“Everybody felt like the emotional homecoming. Nay [Pattuwage] and I wanted to write something that celebrates love and connection; something that uplifts.”

“I’ve been through dark spaces in my life, and I know first-hand that singing together is healing. Everybody is a reminder that joy and love are just as infectious as pain. Let this song be an anthem for togetherness. Honestly, I’d love to make a world choir with this one – send me your audition tapes! Let’s heal the world together, hehe!”

Also arriving today with an equally stunning lyric video, made with Heaps Stoked Productions, aka Nay Pattuwage, and also featuring some in-studio and recording footage filmed by Charlie Hurd, Everybody’s accompanying visuals cements the track as a charming anthem to resilience, passion and introspection. “The lyric video for Everybody is very special!” shares Maxon“You’ll see behind-the-scenes moments from recording the song, including the community choir session at Abbotsford Convent, which captures the spirit of the track perfectly.”

A two-time recipient of the Mornington Peninsula Development Arts Grant, winner of the Green Wedge Songwriting Comp and City of Melbourne Grant Recipient, Maxon’s ability to shatter yet heal hearts with her raw creations and powerful depth simultaneously makes any listener feel instantly seen, understood and coaxed into the light. An LGBTQIA+ creative powerhouse fluent in fusing Americana with 70s folk-rock and a modern sheen, Maxon’s relationship with music spans beyond the studio and the stage: “I’ve always used singing as a kind of self-regulation tool – it’s been my best friend through everything,” she shares. “We didn’t have a stereo growing up in our home, so I didn’t have a huge musical upbringing. Just the radio – and my own voice when things were tough at home”. From devouring John Mayer’s Room for Squares on CD on a family road trip through to rapidly developing her own love for singing and songwriting, Maxon has since gone on to share stages and lineups with the likes of Tones and IElla HooperAlex Lahey more, and has also appeared at major festivals including St Kilda Festival and Melbourne Fringe. And in 2026, there will definitely be even more unforgettable live moments when Maxon takes to the stage, with the talented artist already locked in to appear at Out Loud on the Ninch and Flinders Fringe Festival in February, and at the Seven Sisters Festival in March. And, as Maxonreveals, there will definitely be some extra special shows still to come celebrating Talking With Strangers.

“We’ll be announcing the album launch party date soon!” Maxon shares. “The upcoming shows will be more intimate, reimagined versions of the songs. But the Melbourne launch will be the full six-piece band – lots of energy, harmonies, and love. We’ll also be inviting community members to join the choir live too… more on that soon!”

Now primed to release her long-awaited debut album this April, supported by Mornington Peninsula Arts & Culture, Creative Victoria Music Works and City of Melbourne, Maxon’s unwavering authenticity, along with her passion for songwriting and melody, is dynamically amplified by her true desire: to spread the message of unconditional love. And it’s this driving foundation that beats deeply at the heart of both her latest single, Everybody, as well as her stunning debut album breathlessly waiting for release later this year.

“Everybody feels like the glue holding my album…and honestly, my life…together right now,” Maxonreveals. “It’s a reminder that as humans, as energetic beings, we are love. When we understand the give and take of energy, we start living in a more loving space. It’s a personal reminder that no matter where we come from or how we’ve been raised, we are all one collective consciousness. We thrive in community and that’s why it was so important to me to have people come and sing along with us on this song. Nay and I wrote this song to remind people that we all deserve to feel love, to be loved, and to offer love…with kindness.”

“My upcoming album is all about unconditional love – what happens when we don’t give it to ourselves, and how that affects our mental and physical health,” Maxon concludes. “Everybody gave me a kind of healing I hadn’t yet experienced. It helped me understand that love is the one true thing we all not only need to feel – but deserve to feel – to be seen and made whole.”
