Cheersquad Records & Tapes Join Northcote Social Club’s 20 Gigs for 20 Years Celebration

As part of Northcote Social Club’s 20th birthday blowout, Cheersquad Records & Tapes is taking over Wednesday nights from July 2 to August 27 with an eight-week residency packed with familiar faces, label favourites and local legends.

Presented by Triple R, CRT Wednesdays tips the hat to the artists, crews and crowds that have helped shape both Cheersquad and the NSC over the years, with sets from Queenie, Davey Lane, Checkerboard Lounge, Phil Jamieson, Hard-Ons, The Meanies, Skyscraper Stan and heaps more.

A highlight of the series lands on August 13 with ‘The Chris Wilson Cheersquad,’ a tribute night honouring the late, great Chris Wilson featuring an all-star lineup of friends and collaborators.

Mountain Goat have also joined in on the action, presenting a massive midweek lineup on Thursday August 21 featuring The Belair Lip Bombs and Armlock.

The full 20 Gigs for 20 Years program runs throughout Winter, with headline shows from Kingswood, Augie March, Nai Palm, Jazzparty, Maple Glider, Alice Ivy, Jordie Lane and more, plus curated nights from Poison City Records & PBS.

This epic celebration of the NSC wraps up on August 29 with a massive Closing PartyAjak Kwai will take the stage in the bandroom, and AFL legends (and longtime NSC regulars) Matthew ‘Richo’ Richardson and Bob Murphy will be queuing up their favourite good-time party tunes all night long in the front bar.

The whole series is a love letter to two decades of great gigs and good yarns with the community that’s made it all possible.

ABOUT NORTHCOTE SOCIAL CLUB:

Northcote Social Club has been holding it down on High Street since 2005 – a pillar of Melbourne’s live music scene and the go-to for some of the best local and touring lineups in the country. Sister venue to the Corner Hotel, NSC is known for its legendary bandroom, leafy beer garden (one of the nicest spots for a pint in the north), and the odd infamous secret gig – with the Pixies and Lady Gaga among those who’ve popped up unannounced!

Originally built in 1854 as The Commercial Hotel, the site has evolved from a bullock driver’s pitstop to a cornerstone of the city’s musical life. The venue’s ethos is grounded in inclusion and community – a safe, welcoming space where people from all walks of life can come together over a good show, a good feed, and a good yarn.

With a history of showcasing everything from punk matinees and indie darlings to soul nights and experimental sounds, the NSC remains a home for music lovers of all kinds – a place where the next great gig memory is always just around the corner.
