Moses Gunn Collective
Life as a rock star can be pretty busy especially for up and comers Moses Gunn Collective who have most recently been on tour with The Jungle Giants. On top of that chuck in an album release Mercy Mountain and new single Back into the Womb. The Brissie psych rock are fast building a reputation for themselves based on their live show complete with DIY costumes and dance moves to impress the masses. Aidan Moore from the band does a quick Q&A with Across The Ocean to bring us up to speed on the latest from Moses Gunn Collective.
How busy a time is it leading up to an album release?
Very busy!
Is this the most exciting period for any band?
It’s the glory days. It’s just so nice to hold the physical result of years of work in your hands.
Is there a sense of relief or pressure once its finally out there?
A bit of both. Mostly excitement.
Does it amaze you with the support of your fans?
We love our fans very muchly!
How do you plan to maintain the momentum? Is that the tricky part?
I guess we’ll just go back in and make another record. Hopefully one of the tracks goes mental on college airwaves in the US and we can just tour around The States for the next five years.
Back in to the Womb is a great single – is there a story behind this single?
It’s an ode to that lovely cosy joint we all started out at.
Did you get to make a film clip or plan to make one?
We did! And we plan to.
Was the process of writing and recording challenging as you thought?
We’re always doing it so it’s actually quite fun and easy.
Was there anything that you learned that you would do differently next time? Do you think you would do a crowd-funded project?
I think we pretty much nailed the process this time. We’ve thought about crowd funding but our crowds have no funds.
How would you describe the album to someone who hasn’t heard of your band before?
Sub-tropical-soul-psychedelia
If you were working in JB Hi-Fi and had to write a yellow display card for the album what words would you write on it?
“ALBUM OF THE YEAR”
What would you say were the main influences for this album?
Connan Mockasin, Todd Terje, T Rex.
Did you have a clear direction of where you wanted to take this album when you went in to the studio?
Yeah we’d demoed all the tracks so we had a good idea.
With the digital age do you think the concept of an album is lost?
It’s coming back baby!
Are you looking to tour internationally at some point this year or next?
Hopefully next year depending on how our OS servicing goes.
What’s the plan for the later half of the year heading in to summer?
Sit back and see how this baby goes! And lots of swimming in our pool.
