Mariachi El Bronx & The Bronx Announce Dual Headline AU Tour
Live Nation has today announced that Mariachi El Bronx and The Bronx will return to Australia with the Super Show! Band on Band Action! Tour in March 2026, marking a long-awaited comeback for fans across the country.
Born more than two decades ago as the creative and experimental offshoot of LA punk heavyweights The Bronx, Mariachi El Bronx has since carved out an impressive career of its own. Drawing on the band’s deep connection to the Hispanic music and culture of their Los Angeles home, the project blends seemingly contrasting worlds — but for the band, punk and mariachi aren’t opposites at all. They’re spiritually aligned forms of resilient, working-class storytelling.
“Punk rock and mariachi music are very similar in soul,” says songwriter and lead vocalist Matt Caughthran. “It’s working-class music. It’s real music.”
The Super Show! Band on Band Action! Tour kicks off in Melbourne on Tuesday, 3 March. Followed by stops in Newcastle and Sydney, before wrapping up in Brisbane on Saturday, 7 March. The tour will see both bands performing on stage back-to-back for the first time, treating fans to a brand-new show, never seen before.
A message from the band on what fans can expect:
“Australia! These days, one band is never enough—good thing we have two! Join us for the first-ever Bronx and Mariachi El Bronx Supershow! Two bands, one mind-exploding, style-bending, life-affirming set. Top tracks and deep cuts from both bands, plus new smash hits reimagined and performed by a 9-piece band! ABOUT MARIACHI EL BRONX:
After a 10 year hiatus, the beloved Los Angeles trailblazers Mariachi El Bronx are dusting off their charro suits again. The alter ego of punk rock heroes The Bronx, this band’s unexpected headlining career began back in 2008 after the hardcore group sought ways to grow creatively while celebrating the Hispanic music and culture they were surrounded by growing up in Los Angeles. Although seemingly different, the band doesn’t see the genres of punk and mariachi as mutually exclusive – to them, punk and mariachi are spiritually entwined forces rooted in resilient storytelling. “Punk rock and mariachi music are very similar in soul,” says songwriter and lead vocalist Matt Caughthran. “It’s working class music. It’s real music.”
With four acclaimed albums to their name, the eight-piece has shared stages with the Foo Fighters and the Killers, performed everywhere from Letterman to NPR’s Tiny Desk, and lit up festivals from Coachella to Glastonbury. They even lent their sound to TV, recording theme songs for Weeds (“Little Boxes”) and Aqua Teen Hunger Force (“Aqua Something You Know Whatever”). Returning after a decade away felt “joyous and familiar from the jump,” says guitarist Joby J. Ford.
Mariachi El Bronx still considers themselves lifelong students of mariachi; its members strive to continue progressing in their musicianship while paying homage to this storied artform. That reverence carries over to their iconic charro suits, which often attract nearly as much attention as the music itself. The band has long turned to Casa del Mariachi in Boyle Heights – a shop honored by the city as a historic landmark – where Jorge Tello (aka Mr. George) has been handcrafting traditional suits for more than 50 years. “This band has always been about learning and exchanging culture through music and art,” says Caughthran. “That’s what it’s all about! Everything we do comes from the heart and soul.”
ABOUT THE BRONX:
Do anything for long enough – even something you love – and there’s a risk you might get a little bored. Your passion might wane, and it might all start to feel routine. You take it for granted and phone it in. That, however, is not the case for The Bronx. The LA-based punks might have formed 18 years ago, but even just one listen to VI and it’s clear that this means just as much to the five-piece as it ever did. If anything, it means even more. There are numerous reasons for that. Partly it’s because making music is just as important and vital to them as ever. It’s also because the band – founding members Matt Caughthran (vocals) and Joby J Ford (guitar), guitarist Ken Horne, bassist Brad Magers and Joey Castillo, who’s been behind the drum kit since 2018 – refuse to rest on their laurels at all. In fact, with these 12 uncompromising songs, they’ve done just the opposite.

It might be nearly 20 years since The Bronx began life, but being in this band is just as much of a crutch for its members now as it always was. The band has, of course, grown in that time, but their reasons haven’t changed in the slightest. Rather, they still make music for the most pure and honest reason – because they have to.
“Over the years, as you create art,” says Ford, “I personally think trying to funnel whatever comes out of you, or trying to distil it down to something that you want to make is the wrong move. I think that whatever comes out of you that’s affected by all of your other senses is the way to go, and that’s the music you should be making.”
