Wildcat! Wildcat! – “No Moon At All”

No Moon At All is the debut album from Wildcat! Wildcat!, a trio of long term friends from Los Angeles.

The ten tracks that make up the recording have come together at an impressive rate when one considers the collaboration has only been in effect since 2012. Boasting a unique multi-vocal guitar free line up, the band have delivered a predominantly ambient indie pop album that occasionally meanders into dance territory.

Atmospheric keyboards, electronic beats and throbbing bass are the trio’s trademark and are evident from the get go.

Early tracks Garden Grays and addictive single Hero are uplifting and get the ball rolling early.

Up And Beyond is more lugubrious in tone, containing the mournful admission “I think I’m breaking down”. It is difficult to define who is singing what as the band lists all members as singers without isolating a frontman but the vocals, both lead and backing, are strong and soulful, occasionally pushing up into the realms of falsetto.

Holloway (Hey, Love) and Sentimental both pivot around repetive trance inducing keyboard lines, Michael Wilson’s tinkering drawing us in while the two Jesses (Taylor, bass) and (Carmichael, drums) slot in to complete the soundscape.

The dark and slightly baleful Circuit Breaker asks “Is anybody out there?” and emerges, along with the aforementioned Hero, as one of the album’s pinnacles.

With their somewhat unusual line-up, powerful song writing and admirable vocal prowess, Wildcat! Wildcat! have delivered a debut release to satisfy fans of both indie pop and electronica.
