Charming Liars – “We Won’t Give Up” EP

Hailing from London, Charming Liars’ desire to completely immerse themselves in rock n’ roll saw them flee the motherland for the home of all things rockin’ and debaucherous- Los Angeles.

The defiantly titled ‘We Won’t Give Up‘ is the band’s second EP and is a shameless celebration of epic rock, with all tracks building up nicely before exploding into stadium choruses.

Opening number and single ‘The Desperation‘ features the chanted EP title in the lyrics and is impossible to listen to without envisioning the masses bellowing along and punching the air in unison – no doubt the band’s intention.

After capturing our attention with a punchy frantic opening, a rumbling bass leads into ‘My Kinda Crazy‘, a tale about the kind of wild women sometimes attracted to this genre of music. The glossy cheese metal influences are non too subtle in parts, most notably in the very ‘Living On A Prayer‘ bass intro to ‘Little Scar‘. There is nothing groundbreaking in the lyrical department here but Charming Liars aren’t really trying to change the world – it’s more about pumping out a fun easily digestable dollop of rock. This is something very much achieved.

With only five tracks on offer it is short, sharp and to the point and no doubt likely to impress fans.
