Among the Restless Debut Album ‘Seasons’ Announced for October

Fast-approaching the release of their debut album, Seasons set for release on October 30, today Naarm/Melbourne group Among The Restless return armed with a vulnerable yet driving alt-rock gem in the form of a brand new single, 6 Years Of Madness.

Capturing the euphoria of 2000s Australian indie flavours with a modern alt pop sound, 6 Years Of Madness feels simultaneously nostalgic yet forward-facing. Balancing jangly instrumentation, driving beats and soaring melodies, 6 Years Of Madness finds Among The Restless at their reflective yet riveting best, complete with buoyant earworm choruses and a heartfelt bridge that oozes into a final flourish. “6 Years Of Madness is straight to the point but gentle and not afraid to let a sensitive topic rear its head for all to see,” shares the band. “It has the elements of an alt rock track, which is where our roots are as a band, so we got to dig in and hone in on what we love. It covers some pretty personal struggles faced by Lachie [Dunn], but we aren’t afraid to shy away from that. It’s a loud and proud, bold final single.”

As they approach the release of their debut album next month, Among The Restless are poised on a spectacular new creative chapter as a collective. Rebuilding their sound into one bustling with infectious hooks, introspective lyricism and a sense of immediacy that has threaded through their trajectory since 2019, the upcoming arrival of Seasons celebrates the band’s past, present and future, channelled vigorously into their long-awaited debut full-length album.

Co-produced by the band themselves alongside Thomas Keating (Pete Murray, Gang Of Youths, Thirsty Merc), with engineering and mixing also courtesy of Keating, Seasons was mastered by Matthew Redlich (Dan Sultan, The Paper Kites, The Cactus Channel), with the entire album ultimately captured and completed at Sing Sing Recording Studios in Melbourne over the space of a year and a half. “The whole process was so memorable,” the band reveals of making Seasons. “As we spent more time there we all grew closer and started working so efficiently, we have made lifelong memories and friends.”

Opening with its atmospheric and driving title track, Seasons journeys through winsome and hypnotic earworms (Run Baby Run and Play Pretend), swooning ruminations (Lost In You), and indie gems laden with lush instrumentation and crystalline vocals (Too Far Gone). Opening its second half with percolating guitars and shimmering urgency (Fade), Seasons ups its emotional ante on the magnetic Too Soon To Loose before diverting into a moody yet upbeat anthem primed for the dancefloor and/or a road trip under a shimmering night sky (Sunflower), the jaunty nostalgia of 6 Years Of Madness and, ultimately, the acoustic-laden beauty of Forever, bringing Seasons to an uplifting and soothing conclusion.

Forming back in 2019, Among The Restless are many things as a creative collective; a wall of sound, an alternative soundscape, and also a hub for pushing their passions for though-provoking songwriting into alternative rock fused with pop sensibilities. Releasing their debut EP Define in 2022, the group followed up in 2023 with their sophomore EP All I Want Is Everything while also constantly seeking to evolve their sound and musical boundaries along the way.

Ticking off three East Coast tours and a regional Victorian tour, Among The Restless have performed at Uncaged Festival and Beyond The Valley, and opened Melbourne’s edition of Good Things Festival in 2022 after winning the coveted Battle of the Bands competition. Previously the group were nominated for the AMPlify Award at the 2024 Music Victoria Awards, a category which celebrates and supports outstanding Deaf and/or Disabled musicians in Victoria, and have also received airplay on triple j and triple j Unearthed, along with their music video for Pixel Junkies added to ABC’s rage playlist upon release.

Following the release of their debut album next month, Among The Restless will also embark on their Seasons Tour, heading to Wollongong, Sydney, Canberra and San Remo in November and December, and kicking off 2027 with a bang with a run through the Gold Coast, Byron Bay, Brisbane and Melbourne in January.

“It feels GREAT to be releasing this new single,” says the band. “6 Years Of Madness was one of the last tracks we recorded for the album and from the get go we knew it was a single.”

“An album is something every artist dreams of and now we have done it,” the group conclude. “We really locked it all down and rediscovered our sound and we are completely proud of it, it’s where we want to be.”
