Dan Sultan’s Album Blackbird Goes Gold
Dan Sultan’s dream run for Blackbird continues, with the ARIA award winning album clocking up over 35,000 sales and notching up gold accreditation in the process – another huge accomplishment for the Melbourne musician.
Blackbird debuted at #4 on the ARIA Albums Chart last April, and since then has achieved a number of notable feats, including a win at the ARIAs for Best Rock Album, victory at the AIR Awards for Best Blues & Roots Album, three NIMA Awards (National Album of the Year, National Song of the Year and Best Cover Art) and wins for Best Album and Best Male Artist at The Age Music Victoria Awards. These trophies add to an already impressive collection of ARIAs, AIR and Deadly Awards from previous releases.
“I really want to thank my family, my friends, my label and my management for working so hard to get me to gold. But most of all, I need to thank my fans because without them I wouldn’t get the chance to do what I love. It’s no small feat in this day and age to get to gold, and I truly appreciate everything that everyone has done for me.” – Dan Sultan
The gold accreditation for Blackbird gives Dan his first ever gold release and is the icing on the cake for the multi-talented singer-songwriter, who pursued his love of rock n roll on this album and whose effortless ability to traverse multiple musical genres has seen his popularity ascend to new heights, winning fans from the realms of triple J and Triple M right through to the ABC. Blackbird also impressed the critics, receiving rave reviews from Rolling Stone, The Age and HIT (amongst others), and unsurprisingly appearing on numerous end of year highlights lists for 2014 including Fasterlouder’s Top 50 Albums.
Having just finished touring with close friend and collaborator Paul Kelly on The Merri Soul Sessions, Dan launches his own headline tour tomorrow. Solo affairs, the shows will take him around the country once again and provide fans with a unique opportunity to get up close and personal with the musician at intimate venues as he strips back hits from Blackbird and the recently released Dirty Ground EP
Dan’s postponed Melbourne Zoo concert has also been rescheduled for March 5. The event was cancelled last week due to Melbourne’s wonderfully unpredictable weather.
Tickets for the tour are on sale now via dansultan.com.
