Mat Rigby Debut Single ‘Holdin’ on to You’

Melbourne-based artist Mat Rigby introduces himself with debut single ‘Holdin On To You’.

At just 18, Mat has already built a growing fanbase of over 72k followers, generating millions of views across his social channels, driven by the strength of his vocal performance, all before releasing his first official track.

First picking up a guitar after being gifted one for his seventh birthday, Mat hasn’t put it down since. Inspired early on by his grandpa Bob, who always had a guitar in hand, Mat gravitated towards music naturally, picking up any instrument he could as a kid before the guitar became his main outlet. What began as a personal escape has quickly evolved into a defining creative voice, shaped by lived experience and emotional honesty.

‘Holdin On To You’ captures a pivotal moment in Mat’s life. Reflecting on a challenging period within his family, the track explores the feeling of holding onto something that no longer exists and the struggle to move forward. Now at 18, Rigby is ready to share that story, offering a raw and honest introduction to his artistry.

“The song’s about me navigating my parent’s separation, ‘Holdin On To’ a past version of me and my family,” Mat shares.

With a powerful, soulful voice that carries emotion in every note, Mat draws comparisons to Dermot Kennedy, Noah Kahan, Matt Corby and Angie McMahon, while carving out a sound that is distinctly his own.

The single was produced by George Carpenter, whose credits include Emily Grace Taylor, The Lonesomes and Eimhin, and mastered by Paul Blakey, known for his work with Amy Shark and Busby Marou.

‘Holdin On To You’ is now available on all streaming platforms, marking the first release in a run of new music planned for 2026.

To celebrate the release, Mat will perform a special launch show in Melbourne.
