Paul Dempsey Blindspot National Tour – Across The Ocean

Paul Dempsey Blindspot National Tour

Paul Dempsey has today announced his Blindspot national tour. His first full national outing since the sold out Strange Loop tour of last year will mark the release of the fourth single from Strange Loop.

The beautifully seductive Blindspot is a sultry celebration of the intellect, the allure of a sharp and hungry mind heightened by the tension of the dark 12 string guitar – ‘She does all the heavy thinking now/And I think I’ll just let her’. It shows a genuinely sweet sentiment amidst the ever dry-witted and cerebral observations we know and love him for but is at the same time playful and unguarded.

After the release of first single, the exciting and combustible Morningless, the album debuted top 5 on the ARIA Albums Chart in May 2016 and received incredible reviews. Second single, Idiot Oracle showed a more gentle folk tinged side of the album while the title track, Blindspot, offered a sardonic take on pop psychology and a skewering of the cult of self-help.

After a sold out national tour, solo regional tour, London shows, and festival performances in India, Strange Loop has just been released throughout Europe where Paul is currently on tour concluding in Ireland. The Blindspot Tour sees Paul return to Australia to reunite with his band, comprised of Pat Bourke, Olympia, Shannon Vanderwertt and Adrian Stoyles.

Featuring new single Blindspot, Strange Loop is Paul Dempsey’s eclectic yet incisive second solo album, 11 tracks that enclose surreptitious dry wit, the irregularity of the everyday, and the pathos of longing in a mix of magic hour melodies, striking instrumentation, and tenderly charged vocals.

Strange Loop is the sound of expanding musical horizons: of guitarmonies colliding with baritone sax; relentlessly driving rhythms and pianos being pounded; whispered vocals and reckless yelps; abandonment and containment; Queen and Kraftwerk; a room full of guitars and a notepad full ideas. For those who fell in love with the folk-tinged beauty and intelligence of his first solo album, Everything is TrueStrange Loop reveals a super-charged Dempsey; his voice more potent and powerful than ever, his stories and characters magnified, his instrumentation more adventurous and playful. It’s an album that sounds like doing what you want, and actually getting it right.

Critical acclaim for Strange Loop

‘Paul Dempsey’s finest hour…Strange Loop sounds like the love child of Fleetwood Mac, Queen, Ryan Adams & Wilco – quite a musical orgy…’ Saturday Telegraph
‘Paul Dempsey retains his place as one of Australia’s best songwriters….immediately pleasing, but never predictable. It seems like Dempsey never takes the easy option when writing songs and it means that the songs have an extra kind of depth.’ Double J
‘Dempsey is a gifted observer of the human condition’ The Daily Telegraph
‘Bloody Brilliant’ The West Australian, 4.5 stars
